Healthy Thyroid
In the tradition of Eastern medicine, the thyroid gland is associated with the Phlegm constitution (endocrine and lymphatic systems), responsible for the growth and development of the body. Its function contributes to growth, sexual maturity, childbirth, mental development of a person, and affects emotional state. Eastern medicine distinguishes eight types of thyroid diseases, arising from disturbances in the Wind, Phlegm, and Cholera constitutions. Nervous stress, negative emotions, and an unhealthy lifestyle lead to disturbances in these physiological systems. The first signs of thyroid dysfunction include coughing without signs of a cold, difficulty swallowing and breathing, throat irritation, and weight gain.
